Job Summary
The Business Consultant assists in the development and implementation of Florida Gulf Coast University/Small Business Development Center (FGCU/SBDC) consulting, educational, and training assistance programs in compliance with Small Business Administration (SBA), Florida Small Business Development Center (FSBDC), and FGCU guidelines.
Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
• Provides direct client services requiring a minimum of 60% direct individual counseling.
• Promote FSBDC and increase clients with community outreach including but not limited to speaking engagements and partnerships.
• Assists with the development and implementation of FGCU / SBDC educational and training assistance programs in compliance with SBA, FSBDC, and FGCU guidelines. The training can be delivered in many different methods; including written, online and in person.
• Assists with ensuring all deliverables for SBA are achieved in a timely manner.
• Required to enter all information needed in statewide FSBDC database system no later than the end of each week.
• Represents SBDC on community outreach by serving on appropriate boards and committees.
• Engages in the area Chambers of Commerce and other economic development organizations.
• All Client information and data are confidential and no SBDC client may be approached for outside paid services.

Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Two years of experience in general business or small business development.
- Experience operating personal computers with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in consulting or expertise in any of these small business subjects: Business Financial Strategies, Access to Capital, Contracting (finding and applying to government opportunities), Accounting, Sales Development, and Marketing Strategies.
- Previously owned or operated a small business
