DIVISION: ITS

DEPARTMENT: Enterprise Platform Group

BASIC FUNCTION: Monitors, administers, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades servers. Plans and executes deployment of enterprise systems whether new or upgraded. Under the guidance of the Infrastructure Director acts as Team Lead for planning, budgeting, project management, and change management with the Enterprise Platform Group. Interfaces with other University ITS Teams. Trains and provides technical advice to other ITS staff members as needed.

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. BA/BS or equivalent related experience desired. Certification in RHEL 6.0 and/or 7.0, Microsoft MCSA or higher, AWS Cloud certifications are desired.

EXPERIENCE: 8 years of technical field experience with at least 2 years of functional supervisory experience within a server team/data center environment. Ability to research and support new hardware and software as needed. Must have a strong background with directory services, data backup strategies, Cloud computing implementations, and Business Continuity Planning. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and have a customer-service orientation toward internal staff and campus users. Must have a working knowledge of the items below with proven expertise in key functional areas.

Hyper-V Active Directory Data Center Security

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED: Must demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge of server hardware and software; must possess strong troubleshooting skills; needs excellent communication skills; must be a motivated self-starter and possess a demonstrated skill at being a server team lead.

UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

REPORTS TO: Director, Infrastructure Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To administer several enterprise systems. This involves:

  • Delegating access control to power users

  • Creating and enforcing user polices.

  • Managing upgrades and updates

  • Monitoring system health and usage

  • Identifying opportunities for process and policy improvement to increase performance and functionality

  • Documenting relevant work tasks for distribution to team members

  • Addressing break/fix issues and prioritizing response during drills or real time events



To determine hardware and software needs. This involves:

  • Determining specifications and ordering new hardware and software

  • Ability to evaluate commercial and open source solutions

  • Making recommendations on enterprise architecture and design

  • Ability to plan major enterprise system implementations and system upgrades



To work directly with faculty and staff on enterprise projects.

  • Projects may include Web Hosting Initiatives, Co-Location of Services, and support of new systems

  • Work with Internal ITS staff on Server Administration

  • Work with AWS and other Cloud partners on Internal and Customer Facing Deployments (Including … EC2, S3,, etc.)



To participate in the growth and development of the department. This involves:

  • Attending departmental staff meetings as requested

  • Communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental and university matters

  • Promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the university community and consistent with the department’s mission.



To perform other related duties as dictated by responsibilities.
