Job Summary

Reporting to the University Library’s Director of Data and Resource Management and receiving work lead direction from the Head of Systems and Metadata, the ILS Applications and Data Coordinator provides library services to San Jose State University and works respectfully and cooperatively with employees of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and functional support for modules of the SJSU integrated library system (ILS), a part of the CSU’s Unified Library Management System (ULMS); to provide leadership and planning for the management of data sets and resource records in the ILS and affiliated digital repositories; and to gather data and provide analytical reports from the ILS and associated integrations, including but not limited to fulfillment, resource sharing, and SUSHI and COUNTER/non-COUNTER e-resource usage data.

The position contributes to ILS module customization, configuration and enhancement; ULMS processes; and ILS-integrated third-party application programming interface (API’s). The incumbent creates ILS statistical reports and provides data analysis of the reports as well as working collaboratively with library departments to organize and ensure ongoing access to electronic resource records. The position also provides high-level expertise and leadership support to Library Administration in formulating, developing, and modifying library policies and procedures for the harvesting and management of statistical data, coordination of electronic and print resource record sets, and regarding ILS modules and APIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Head of Systems and Metadata, Head of User Experience, and other unit leads to develop and establish procedures, policies, and efficient workflows for resource management, fulfillment, resource sharing, and other system functions.
  • Provides high-level expertise and leadership support to Library Administration in formulating, developing, and modifying library policies and procedures for the management of the ULMS fulfillment and resource sharing modules and integrated third party API’s.
  • Works closely with the Head of Systems and Metadata to continually review, test and support system improvement initiatives and technology efforts, develop and document workflows, and ensure ILS operations are in accordance with the CSU-wide shared system standards and practices.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of current library technologies, applications and standards, the ability to apply technical knowledge to improve library workflows and services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data visualization and manipulation software such as Tableau.
  • Expertise in working with NCIP and API protocols.
  • Expertise in researching, evaluating and implementing new technology and software to meet user needs.
  • Knowledge of Python, R or other statistical programming language
  • In-depth software application skills including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, database management, integrated online library systems, Internet, and e-mail.
  • In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of collaborative and survey software, including but not limited to SharePoint, Google docs, wikis and Qualtrics.
  • Ability to communicate with appropriate staff and vendor representatives in order to resolve system issues.
  • Expertise in working with technical and non-technical staff to identify user requirements and translate them into technology-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a team environment.
  • Ability to participate in long range planning through the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data and information.


Required Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent certification
  • Four years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three (3) years' experience working in an academic library environment
  • Experience with administration of an Integrated Library System (ILS) such as Alma, or
  • Voyager, including configuration of third party applications
  • Experience working with scripts and APIs
  • Experience/Knowledge of interlibrary loan and resource sharing integrations
  • Experience/knowledge of library usage reporting methods and standards such as SUSHI harvesting and COUNTER
  • Experience creating, analyzing and visualizing statistical reports from multiple data sources
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience/Knowledge of bibliographic record format standards such as MARC




Compensation

Classification: Library Services Specialist IV
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,600/month - $6,000/month
Hiring Range: $3,571/month - $6,893/month
