Job Description

Virginia Tech’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Project Management Specialist of the Virginia Tech Academy for Experiential Learning and the Career Bridge Experience Initiative. The position’s primary responsibility will be managing activities connected to the development and implementation of the strategic initiative focused on providing every graduate with an experience to bridge their academic learning with their professional plans after graduation. The position will work closely with the Director of the Academy for Experiential Learning, the Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty Senate Co-Director to lead, steward, strategize, and execute experiential learning collaborative partnership activities with academic departments and support units. The experiential learning strategic initiative will embed experiential learning in every undergraduate degree to bridge the transition from undergraduate education to plans after graduation. This is a distinctive element of a Virginia Tech education and this initiative will enhance the academic experience of all graduates to ensure there is equity in experience and opportunity for all students.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must: hold a Bachelor's Degree with experience in project management or an advanced degree in a related field; have an appreciation for educational approaches using real-world experiences and their role in student learning and development; be a strategic thinker with an ability to nurture and develop long-term strategic partnerships with faculty, administrators and students; organize and manage data and develop reports to communicate data effectively; and be capable of excellent communication skills including speaking, all forms of correspondence, and writing.

Strong candidates will: have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with broad, diverse audiences (faculty, students, corporations, alumni, administrators, etc.); be independent, self-motivated team players that value the contributions of others toward shared strategic goals; be dedicated to encouraging, supporting, and crediting teammates; be committed to honest, respectful, direct communications with all coworkers from peers to leadership and subordinates; be flexible and exhibit excellent organization and time management skills while maintaining quality and attention to detail; and have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have curriculum development experience or experience providing internships or research opportunities in a work/lab setting; a master’s or doctorate degree, or degrees combining project management and education; advanced knowledge of curriculum design; experience with satisfying requirements of accrediting bodies; management or supervisor experience; expertise in university-corporate-non-profit collaborations preferably at a leading research university; experience in customer service, event planning, communication; a strong understanding of project management methodologies; and a familiarity with communication software.
