A successful candidate will play an active role in FMU's existing academic success. This is a visiting or non-tenure track faculty position requiring a strong academic background specifically in more than one area of accounting-Principles of Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Federal Income Tax, Advanced Accounting and Auditing-and supporting the Division of Academic Affairs in maximizing the University's operating performance. All faculty positions will have daily contact with students, and requires the ability to interact in a professional, positive and tactful manner at all times.
  • Faculty will offer both introductory and advanced courses directly related to scheduled instruction, including: lecture, laboratory, clinical, performance and coaching assignments; preparation for instruction; and student assessment activities.
  • Faculty must develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Candidates will also be accountable for collaborative and applied research in various disciplines, including assistance with grant applications and data analysis on funded grants.
Essential duties:
  • Maintain a full-time teaching and service load.
  • Participate in scholarly activities and academic services beyond the regular teaching assignment.
  • Remain current in their disciplines and instructing assigned courses in a manner consistent with the scheduled time, course content, and course credit approved by the faculty, administration and Board of Trustees.
  • Complete all teaching, advisement and service assignments which are a normal part of their duties in a professional and timely manner.
  • Give individual evaluations of student performance including midterm and final grades.
  • Adhere to high standards of professional integrity and conduct.
  • Treat students, colleagues and other members of the academic community fairly, courteously and professionally.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the School of Business.
  • Perform teaching, scholarship, service, professional development, and program assessment for accreditation. Other qualifications include: cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or staff population.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work collaboratively with the other faculty to advance the programs.

  • Advise students for both academic and career fields.
  • A thorough understanding of technology, learning management systems, and computer applications is essential (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas, Powercampus, Jenzabar, LinkedIn Learning).
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong research background in Accounting field.
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in related discipline is preferred. Masters degree with 15-18 graduate credits in Accounting may be acceptable.
  • Strong research background in business fields.
  • Experience teaching in higher education. Applicants with research and teaching in all areas of accountancy will be considered.
  • Five years of instructional experience in higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems. A thorough understanding of technology, learning management systems, and computer applications is essential (i.e. Blackboard, Canvas, Powercampus, Jenzabar, LinkedIn Learning).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Must be able to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Proofreading skills required. Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
