Job Description:
Position Summary:
MassBay Community College seeks qualified part-time instructors for the current and future semesters in the Surgical Technology Program.
Our adjunct instructors hold a baccalaureate or comparable surgical technology experience and have obtained appropriate Surgical Technology certification. The instructor must be proficient in the surgical case specialties, communicate effectively, assess students objectively and work as part of a team. Lab instructors will teach SX 110 - Principles of Surgical Technology I- lecture and lab in the days or evenings (based on the semester in which SX 110 is offered). The emphasis in this course is on aseptic technique and basic case preparation, positioning, patient care procedures, preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative routines, central processing technology, sutures, wound healing, and legal, ethical and moral principles.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach or assist with labs in the Surgical Technology programs;
- Be available for students at scheduled times throughout the week outside of class time;
- Attend Program related meetings, as available and work cooperatively in preparation for those meetings;
- Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
- Maintain a safe environment during skills training and evaluation sessions;
- Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence and expertise in the classroom/clinical/simulation teaching;
- Maintain appropriate continuing education, current certification, paperwork and documentation required by the program and accreditation agencies;
- Other duties as assigned and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Must have a credential in the field of Surgical Technology and through a national credentialing organization accredited by the NCCA-(National Commission on Certifying Agencies);
- Applicants should have a minimum of three years of current operating room experience;
- Must have a current unrestricted credential as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior classroom/lab/practicum/clinical teaching experience is preferred.

Salary Range: $43.60/hour, not to exceed 18 hours/ week
