General Summary/Purpose:

The laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Elisseeff in the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technologist to help support research in immune-focused tissue engineering.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

The Elisseeff Lab wishes to recruit a qualified individual to support our group’s research. The Research Technologist will be trained in cutting edge technologies in principles of tissue engineering and translational regenerative therapies and have access to state-of-the-art resources and equipment, and contribute to high-impact research at the interface of engineering and medicine. The candidate will work under the supervision of senior laboratory personnel, the principal investigator, and the TTEC lab manager.

Primary duties and responsibilities of the job will include:

  • Direction of research projects under the general supervision of the faculty investigator and senior lab members
  • Protocol standardization and instruction
  • Organization and presentation of data
  • Identification and troubleshooting of situations requiring special attention
  • Lab management and organization
  • Operating, and maintaining lab equipment and supplies
  • Ordering and maintenance of lab supplies and stocks
  • Other duties as assigned

    The work will involve a wide range of techniques including:
  • Culture of primary cells and established cell lines
  • RNA isolation, Real-Time PCR
  • Functional analysis using animal models
  • Flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Histology

    Minimum Qualifications(Required)
    Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field.
    • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

      Preferred Qualifications
      Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or a related field required
    • Some related post-undergraduate work experience in molecular and cell biology preferred.

      Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      The successful candidate will be proficient in best lab practices, exhibit strong communication and management skills, and demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
    • The successful candidate will have experience in wet lab bench work, which should include experience with RNA isolation, RT-PCR assays, cell culture, animal handling and husbandry, ELISA, flow cytometry and cell sorting, and histology.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
