Substitutes come to the Children’s Center to support each program as an important set of hands when an Early Childhood Educator is absent. We invite subs to come weekly in order to build relationships with one or two programs at the Center rather than float through all the age groups. When a sub builds a relationship with the children and the team, there is a sense of predictable and consistent support. Subs are asked to help with teacher-work activities, wash dishes, sit with playing children, and participate in the outside program. Because of the play-based and nature-based focus in our programs, subs will be outside and inside while they observe and attend to children’s play.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit eligible position.

$15/hour

Education/Skills Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Child development coursework or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Acceptable Educational Equivalents: A combination of education with extensive experience is acceptable. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a genuine commitment to the field of early childhood education are expected.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Current CPR /First Aid certification required. A minimum of one-year experience working with young children preferred. Must sign Child Abuse Policy statement and complete Bowdoin College’s OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen training, and have proof of Hepatitis B vaccination or submit a written declination statement.
