A postdoctoral research position in field computational biophysics is available at Syracuse University with a starting date of October 16, 2019. Candidates with expertise in computational techniques in areas of: biophysics, statistical mechanics, structural biology, drug discovery, or theoretical and computational quantum chemistry; and experience in high performance computer simulation codes are encouraged to apply. The initial position is for one year, with possible extension of one more based on satisfactory performance.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. bioengineering, chemistry, material science, computational biophysics, or related fields.

Job Specific Qualifications

Candidates should have expertise in computational techniques in areas of: biophysics, statistical mechanics, structural biology, drug discovery, or theoretical and computational quantum chemistry; and experience in high performance computer simulation codes.
Relevant areas of experience might include application of molecular simulation methods (molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo) to membrane protein-protein interactions, protein-lipid, or protein–nucleic acid, antibiotic drug discovery, conformational changes in biological molecules, and bioinformatics. Fundamental understanding of any of the areas is required along with outstanding intellectual ability, critical thinking, strong research skills, problem solving skills, and track-record of innovation and accomplishment. Applicants should also possess excellent English verbal and written communication skills, should be willing to drive a new project in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

Perform multiscale modeling simulations; develop new computational ideas; engage in problem-solving strategies.
Generate manuscripts; give technical presentations at national and local conferences; assist PI in development of grant proposals.
Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate members; assist with solutions to challenging research problems; and promote cross-fertilization of research ideas.
