Post Doctoral Associate
Incumbent will study the role of micro RNA (miRNA) in interactions of the parasitic plant Cuscuta campestris and its hosts. Duties include designing experiments, generating host and parasite tissues, performing laboratory procedures needed to test hypotheses, analyzing results, and writing manuscripts. Experiments will include a combination of molecular biology and bioinformatic approaches. Infrequent supervision of undergraduate students assisting with research is required. The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively as part of a research team that includes colleagues from Virginia Tech and other institutions. The supervisor for the position is Dr. James Westwood.
Ph.D. in a Plant Science discipline with a strong background in molecular biology and bioinformatics. Candidates must have experience growing and manipulating plants. Excellent written and oral communication, teamwork, and organizational skills are required.
Prior experience growing and manipulating parasitic plants.
Prior experience studying small RNAs and small RNA processing. Familiarity with making gene constructs and plant transformation.
