Faculty Position in Digital Filmmaking

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 11th globally. NTU is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at NTU, invites qualified academics to apply for a faculty position as Lecturer in Digital Filmmaking. Applicants with expertise in analogue or digital filmmaking together with two or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

1) Narrative filmmaking (fiction, including emerging forms)
2) Film Editing and/or Post-Production
3) Film Producing in Independent Feature Productions and International Co-Productions
4) Film Distribution
5) Film Production Fund Raising and International Market Trends

Applicants should possess a strong background in professional filmmaking and have university-level teaching experience. A strong national and international reputation in the field, including a significant exhibition/screening at well-known international film festivals/events is a priority. A terminal, MFA or equivalent or PhD degree is preferred. In lieu of an advanced degree, the applicant must possess significant international exhibition, performance, screening or related professional experience in their area of expertise. The successful applicant will contribute to the School’s development of the undergraduate and graduate curricula within the arts, design and media disciplines.

The successful applicant is expected to maintain an active creative production profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service to the school. An open, collaborative approach and willingness to work across areas and departments of the school and university is a priority. This position will also involve administrative activities and committee participation.

ADM is the first comprehensive art, design and media school at the university level school in Singapore. It offers a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, providing students the knowledge and skills needed to develop and produce groundbreaking artworks and related scholarly activity. ADM also promotes Singapore’s creative culture and identity, and is positioned to play a central role in the transformation of Singapore into a regional centre of media and creativity. Two Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree programmes are offered by ADM: Media Arts and Design Arts. A rigorous first-year Foundation programme including Art History and Theory, paired with a traditional studio interdisciplinary experience and innovative development in new technology and media is common to all. The four-year programmes are designed to be relevant regionally and globally, and are structured to meet the highest professional and academic standards worldwide. The School has recently opened new post-graduate MA and PhD programmes that expand to all areas of the School. NTU encourages collaboration across disciplines, provides excellent opportunities for funded faculty research and excellent facilities for creative production.

The BFA in Media Arts Degree, with emphasis in Digital Filmmaking, actively explores and integrates established narrative forms and new technologies for storytelling and experimentation. It focuses on independent filmmaking in the global context with emphasis on Southeast Asia and fosters individual authorship while contributing to the growth of the film industry in Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia. The programme embraces a strongly multicultural approach.
