Position Summary

A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of M. Laura Feltri, at the Hunter James Kelly Research Institute (hjkri.buffalo.edu) at the State University at Buffalo, NY, to investigate the molecular basis of demyelination and axonal degeneration in Krabbe lysosomal storage disorder (Globoid Cell leukodystrophy). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to perform his own line of research, building on exciting projects related to the role of lysosomes in glial cells during development and in human diseases (see for example Weinstock et al. Neuron, May 5th, 2020). In addition, the position includes the possibility to mentor trainees and to provide input on existing projects.

We are looking for a person with great enthusiasm and dedication and the desire to transition to an independent research career. We use a combination of innovative sub-fractionation techniques, animal models and co-culture systems to study how to improve the treatment of Lysosomal Storage Disorders, and how lysosome signals in various nervous system cells and regulate physiology and neurodegeneration.

This position is funded by the NIH for 3 years and comes with a competitive salary and full fringe benefits.
