Ritsumeikan University is a leading private university in Japan with campuses in Kyoto, Osaka and Shiga. Under the concept of "Gateway of Asia", we have opened our new Osaka Ibaraki Campus in April 2015 located between the cities of Kyoto and Osaka. We have been continuing to actively enhance our research and internationalization activities.

Applications are being taken for a full-time fixed-term position (Associate Professor) at the College of Global Liberal Arts, Ritsumeikan University. This new college is being established in April 2019 in Osaka Ibaraki Campus.

  • Qualification Requirement:
  • Applicants must meet ALL of the following eligibility requirement:

    1. A deep understanding of Ritsumeikan University’s Founding Spirit and Educational Philosophy;
    2. Ability to achieve the educational aim of the college and to facilitate the growth of the students;
    3. D. degree or equivalent research achievement;
    4. Committed participation in the educational administration of this new college based on the understanding of the aim of founding this college;
    5. Professional proficiency in English for education and research;
    6. Ability to build international networks in purpose of education and research;
    7. Comprehensive knowledge about postcolonialism theories and research achievements in contemporary history in Asian regions.
  • Teaching Responsibilities:
  • “Postcolonial Studies” (Undergraduate Level)

    * The successful candidate is responsible for four classes (ninety minutes/class) per week each semester in principle, and might also be assigned to teach other courses through inevitable circumstances.

  • Position: Full-time fixed-term Associate Professor
  • Number of Position: One
  • Terms of Employment: from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2024
  • *In the event that he or she reaches the age of 70 before the end of term (31st March 2024), he/she will be allowed to continue their employment until 31st of March of the Japanese academic year.

  • Compensation:
    1. Employment Status: Full-time fixed-term
    2. Annual salary: JPY6,000,000/year (before tax), travel expenses, moving expenses, disbursed in accordance with Salary Regulations.
    3. Social Insurance: Private School Mutual Aid
  • Interview Notice for Short-listed Candidates:
  • Short-listed candidates who pass the document screening will be called for an interview. In addition to the interview, they will be asked to give a mock lecture in English, based on the submitted course syllabus. The course syllabus should be written in English, and requested to submit after the document screening. Details will be sent to the email address shown in Form 1 of your CV.

  • Curriculum Vitae (four sets)
  • One set consists of the four designated documents (Form 1, Form 2, Form3 and Form 4). Each document should be placed in order and the upper left part of the set should be stapled. These documents should be submitted by email as well.

  • Research Achievement of three major publications (four hardcopies each)
  • Certificate of the final academic background (one original and three hardcopies)
  • Four hardcopies are also acceptable. In this case, please bring the original to an interview.

  • Essay on your thoughts, opinions, and vision on the liberal arts education. (four hardcopies)
  • Essay should be written in English within one A4-sized page.
