The University of Toledo Department of English Language and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in British, American, or other anglophone literature written before 1915, with a specialty in the study of sexuality. Preferred candidates will have a secondary interest in literary theory, including but not limited to queer theory; an interest in drama would also be welcome. The ideal candidate will have interest and experience in the literature of more than one period or country. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong research agenda and employ innovative teaching methods. In addition, preferred qualifications include experience mentoring underrepresented minority students.

The candidate should demonstrate commitment to excellence in research and teaching and will have earned the PhD by the time of appointment. Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the faculty member’s area of specialty, as well as general English courses. The position will begin August 2019.
