The Department of Performance Design and Technology in the Division of Performing Arts at Alfred University is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Performance Design. Appointment begins in August, 2019.

The Department of Performance Design and Technology is actively creating a major program and this position will be responsible for collaboratively developing this innovative program with other faculty members in the arts.

The teaching responsibilities of 12 credits per semester include Principles in Design, advanced courses in areas of design and stage management, and designing for divisional productions, which include theater and dance productions. The successful candidate will also engage in divisional, university-wide and community service, in advising students, and in other administrative duties expected from faculty.

The Division of Performing Arts includes four departments which include a Theater major, and minors in Theater, Music, Dance and Performance Design & Technology. The Miller Performing Arts Center has both a black box theater, and a proscenium theater.

The Division of Performing Arts, with six regular full-time, two visiting full-time, three part-time, and five adjunct faculty, is part of Alfred University, an accredited member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The educational programs in Performing Arts are open to and serve the entire campus community of 1,900 students.

An MFA (preferred) or MA in an area of design for theater or their equivalent is required, with a dedicated commitment to excellence in teaching with record of active performance practice.

Candidates should have excellent collaboration and teaching skills and have expertise in at least two areas of design - lighting, scenic, and/or costumes.

Candidates should demonstrate strong scholarship and/or artistic practice and have demonstrable excellent skills in teaching undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

A minimum of three years of previous college-level teaching experience is preferred.
