Academic Pediatric Hospitalist: Fellowship Associate Program Director or Program Director (44836)

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine-Jacksonville is seeking a 1.0 FTE Pediatric Hospitalist to be the Program Director/Associate Program Director of a new pediatric hospitalist fellowship training program. The program takes place at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, a tertiary care children’s hospital staffed by 12 pediatric hospitalists from Nemours Children’s Specialty Services and the University of Florida College of Medicine at Jacksonville, and at our community site, UF Health Jacksonville, staffed by 3 UF pediatric hospitalists. In addition to co-directing the fellowship, duties include assisting with the academic development of pediatric hospitalists, under the mentorship of the UF academic Division Chief. This position will have 50% time in clinical care and 50% time protected for educational and academic efforts.

This position will have dual reports to the Nemours clinical Division Chief for clinical activities and to the UF academic Division Chief for educational and academic activities. The successful candidate will have a promising record of accomplishment and mentorship in education and a strong interest in advancing to become a Program Director. Demonstrable productivity in scholarship and/or quality improvement activity will enhance candidacy. The qualified candidate will also have an affinity to work collaboratively with other team members and subspecialists to care for children with a full breadth of medical and surgical conditions.

Following is a general description of duties and responsibilities:

This position will devote 50% effort to clinical care and resident supervision.

The remaining 50% effort will be devoted to the following responsibilities: (1) assume responsibilities as Associate Program Director (or as Program Director, given adequate experience as an Associate Program Director) for the hospitalist fellowship; (2) collaborate with division faculty and residents on clinical research and quality improvement projects (with mentorship from the UF academic Division Chief as necessary). Along with the Division Chief, the candidate will be able to take advantage of UF Department of Pediatrics, UF COM – Jacksonville clinical research infrastructure to develop a clinical research program that addresses issues of relevance to the WCH inpatient population and to participate with other children’s hospital and academic faculty in existing or planned multicenter studies.

For practicing physicians, the college offers a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well known and respected in their fields. The campus' faculty, residents and fellows are active in clinical research. Residents and fellows regularly present their findings at locations across the country and publish their projects in well-known journals.
