The Citadel, a state-assisted, comprehensive, coeducational, senior military college and one of the most respected academic institutions in higher education, announces an executive search for the Provost and Dean of the College.

Founded in 1842 and located in the historic city of Charleston,
S.C., The Citadel has a rich history of academic excellence and an
enduring legacy of developing principled leaders. The Citadel
offers rigorous academic programs through its five academic
schools: Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business; Zucker Family
School of Education; School of Engineering; School of Humanities
and Social Sciences; and Swain Family School of Science and
Mathematics. The college has seven baccalaureate degrees, nine
master’s degrees, a specialist degree in education, and
certificates in 25 concentrations.
The Citadel focuses on strong academic achievement, which has resulted in the highest fouryear graduation rate in South Carolina. U.S. News & World Report has ranked The Citadel as the No. 1 Public Regional University in the South for seven consecutive years (2012-2018) in the publication’s ratings of Southern public colleges at the master’s comprehensive level.
Men and women from 44 states and a dozen countries are enrolled at The Citadel. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets has a student body of more than 2,300. More than 1,100 civilian students attend The Citadel Graduate College through evening undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered during the day, evening, or online.
The Opportunity: The Provost and Dean of the College is directly responsible to the President for all matters pertaining to the academic functions of the college and is the second-ranking official of The Citadel. As the college’s chief academic officer, the Provost provides leadership in all academic areas and is responsible for ensuring the primacy of academics in the college while respecting its traditions and the military environment that supports the education of the whole person. Further, the Provost collaborates with the President and others in legislative relations and fundraising, and coordinates institution-level decisions and policies involving planning, personnel, finance, facilities, communications, and student activities with senior staff before they are acted upon by the President.
Qualifications: Candidate must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree and scholarly accomplishments that warrant a tenured appointment as a full professor. Distinguished service as a line academic administrator at the level of school/college dean or higher is required. These administrative responsibilities must have included employment, tenure, promotion, and budget decisions.
The Provost holds the rank of brigadier general in the South Carolina Militia, but no previous military experience is required. Candidates should support The Citadel’s core values of Honor, Duty, and Respect. Candidacies of women and minorities are strongly encouraged.
