Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology

Washington University in St. Louis Department of Music announces a tenure-track position in ethnomusicology at the assistant professor rank to begin in Fall semester 2019. Consideration will be given to all subfields.

• Qualifications:  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology (ABD applicants must complete the Ph.D. before taking up the position). Candidates should demonstrate significant post-doctoral teaching experience, a promising record of publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• Duties:  Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise; pursue research and publication; supervise independent projects, theses, and dissertations; and participate on department and university committees.
• Deadline: Consideration of applications will begin on October 1, 2018 and continue until the search is concluded.

The Washington University Department of Music is encompassed within the school of Arts & Sciences. The Department offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees and MA and PhD degrees in Music with concentrations in Musicology and Music Theory.  The Department also confers minors in Music and Jazz Studies and provides lesson and performance opportunities for some 500 students per semester. Our applied music teaching staff includes members of the local jazz community and of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
