The School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate to support the MA in Global Security and the Center on the Future of War. Anticipated start date is July 2018. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, fiscal year position. Renewal is possible on an annual basis contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and needs of the university.


The postdoctoral research associate will work under the supervision of MA in Global Studies co-directors Jeffrey Kubiak and Daniel Rothenberg to teach courses in this innovative online program and to assist with its development, management and strategic vision. In addition, the postdoctoral research associate will be a research fellow at the Center on the Future of War and is expected to pursue independent and collaborative policy-oriented interdisciplinary research, scholarship and publication. These efforts may be linked with the Center’s team and various programs and should play a role in the Center’s larger strategy of integrating educational and research programming.


Minimum qualifications include completion of a Ph.D. in a relevant field (Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Peace Studies, History, International Law etc.) by the time of appointment, relevant teaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary approached to international affairs and global politics.


Desired qualifications: Prior relevant experience in designing and teaching graduate level courses, demonstrated research and writing skills, strong grounding in key theories, ideas and literature related to issues of international affairs, security and global politics.


The School of Politics and Global Studies grants a Ph.D., M.A., B.S. and B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Global Studies. The School offers a M.A. in Global Affairs and Management in conjunction with the Thunderbird School of Global Management. The Center on the Future of War links ASU with New America, a DC-based think tank through a leadership team, core faculty, and a team of over 100 ASU affiliated faculty as well as several dozen though international security thought leaders including former government officials, prize-winning journalists, retired general officers, human rights experts, scholars and others. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute scholarship, teaching and service to advance these and other programs at ASU. The School of Politics and Global Studies values interdisciplinary scholarship, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to affiliate and collaborate with other schools and centers at Arizona State University.
