The Department of Sociology at St. Lawrence University invites
applications for a 1-year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning
August 2018. Area of specialization is open. Applicants should
demonstrate excellence in teaching, active scholarship, and a
strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts
college. Teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Regular
contribution to the department’s introductory level courses is
expected as well as contributions of sociology elective courses
that serve majors, minors, and the general student body.
Opportunities also exist to collaborate with and mentor student
research. Department aims and goals include encouraging the
development of the “sociological imagination” in students, the
teaching of skills to articulate this, and providing opportunities
for students to engage in praxis. There is also opportunity to
contribute to the university’s area studies programs. ABD in
Sociology at time of application required. Preference will be
given to candidates who have completed the Ph.D. by the time of
