VERMONT, MIDDLEBURY 05753. The Geography Department seeks to fill a tenure-track position beginning in the fall of 2018 in Human Geography at the instructor (ABD) or Assistant Professor (PhD) level. We seek candidates who:
  1. expand the topics and regions currently covered in our curriculum, specifically candidates who could offer courses in areas such as spatial justice, climate change, spatial networks, health, or natural hazards, AND
  2. approach research questions using geo-spatial methods such as remote sensing, web/mobile cartography, or big data.
Teaching responsibilities include our introductory ‘Spatial Thinking with GIS' course, 200-level electives in the candidate's thematic and/or regional areas of expertise, 300-level courses involving geospatial methods, a senior capstone seminar, and contributions to the College's First Year Seminar program. The typical teaching load at Middlebury College is 4-5 courses per year depending on enrollments, contact hours, and labs. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program that involves undergraduate students and results in scholarly publications.
