To provide instruction or lab instructional support within the veterinarian technician program in accordance with the standards established by the American Veterinary Medical Association. This individual must demonstrate a potential for excellent classroom and lab instruction, including curriculum development and evaluation of student performance in the classroom. This individual will work with the program director or primary class instructor to align coursework with program requirements.
Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (< .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty compensation begins at Step 1 / $595 per load unit (LU). Load Unit is equivalent to class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Initial assignment will be at the Redmond Campus. May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
• Provide instruction for veterinary technician students in the lecture and laboratory settings along with full time tenure track faculty members and part-time faculty members.
• Prepare laboratory environments for instruction by assembling necessary resources.
• Clean and maintain instructional lab equipment, and assist in cleanup of laboratory sessions.
• Assist other vet tech faculty with demonstrations, observation, and evaluation of student essential skills performance.
• Remain current in the field of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinary Technician Education through a variety of professional activities.
Plan and Design of Courses
• Support department faculty with copying class materials, stapling, and hole-punching; sort papers and/or supplies.
• Maintain records of activities undertaken in the laboratory which may include typing forms, inputting data or otherwise retaining information regarding students and their progress in meeting instructional goals.
• Perform other essential job functions as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Thorough knowledge in the field of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinary Technician Training and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
2. Desire to work with and advocate for all species (large, small, exotics, lab, birds, fish) and a commitment to increase the knowledge base in these species.
3. Clinical experience with both large and small animals.
4. Knowledge and vision of the Certified Veterinary Technician’s role in the veterinary profession.
5. Experience working with Certified Veterinary Technicians in a clinical, research, and/or academic setting.
6. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of adult learners, various audiences and group dynamics.
7. Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructors to observe, direct, and supervise students in laboratory situations.
8. Ability to effectively use Microsoft platform desktop computer and various software including Microsoft Office and Outlook, with potential to learn Blackboard course management system.
9. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
10. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
11. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
12. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
13. Ability to work with faculty and other COCC staffs at all levels.
14. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
15. Ability to competently advise and/or serve students from a variety of background, respecting cultural and socio-economic differences.
Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Work is performed in a classroom and office environment using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. The employee is regularly required use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Must be able to kneel, stoop, crawl, and crouch. Physical movements involve guiding, feeding materials into proper position. Lifting objects vary daily, up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Current Oregon License Veterinarian or Certified Veterinary Technician by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board (by the time of hire).
2. If not a licensed Veterinarian, must have an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Technician from an accredited institution and have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam ( VTNE ) and be a credentialed Veterinary Technician.
3. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a licensed Veterinarian or Certified Veterinary Technician with the handling and management of animals.

2. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited institution and current license as a veterinarian by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board
3. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level and current knowledge of educational theory and methodology.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with community Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians
5. Experience in curriculum development at the post-secondary levels.
