Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin Department Of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease seeks a Scientist to join an expanding research initiative within the Department. The Infection Control Research Program, led by Nasia Safdar, MD, PhD, seeks to improve the health and quality of life of patients through high-impact research in learning health systems, transformational research on infection control and prevention using translational methods, biomedical informatics, clinical trials, clinical microbiology and implementation science. The Scientist will serve as a managing member of a growing and dynamic team, providing support for the program's varied scientific and analytic activities by conducting clinical trials, implementing interventions, and statistical analysis of cutting-edge data to address significant public health and clinical research questions. The Scientist will also identify research problems and collaborate in the design and implementation of new studies for the program. The Scientist will manage research efforts of the team under Dr. Safdar's guidance and leadership. This position represents an opportunity for significant professional and scientific growth within a collaborative, supportive research environment.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
PhD or equivalent in clinical trials, infectious diseases clinical research, health services research, public health, epidemiology, behavioral or social science, or other closely related fields is required.
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Two years of post-doctoral training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, clinical trials, clinical microbiology, or comparable area are required for consideration. The successful applicant is required to have demonstrated quantitative research skills, experience working with large datasets typically used to conduct health services research (e.g. Medicare claims and electronic medical records datasets, VA data). In addition to quantitative research skills, the successful applicant is also required to demonstrate competence in standard office productivity software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). A scientific publication track record is preferred.
Additional Information:
Hire will be subject to criminal background check requirements. A period of evaluation will be required. Candidate should have an interest in building a portfolio and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. The successful applicant will be highly self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, be team-oriented, work and problem-solve independently. The applicant will also have a deep and abiding interest in the program's mission to reduce infectious diseases related morbidity and mortality.
