The Department of Biology at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate, with expertise in the areas of cranial development and/or evolution to contribute to an NSF -funded research project. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for additional years based on performance and availability of funding.

This position will support research in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Sanger. We will be investigating the regulation of skull development in an integrative model system, Anolis lizards. The project will integrate experimental, comparative, and quantitative approaches to understand the way cranial diversity is generated among vertebrates. The postdoctoral associate will also have the option of teaching 1-2 courses in the Department of Biology each year. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who are interested in gaining teaching experience while conducting cutting-edge research.

The postdoctoral associate will work with Dr. Sanger to investigate the developmental bases of cranial morphology in reptiles. S/he will be involved in several different aspects of the project, including collecting and analyzing data, writing manuscripts, giving presentations, and mentoring students. Experimental techniques will include embryonic dissection, in situ hybridization, CT scanning, three-dimensional morphometrics, and immunohistochemistry.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in developmental or evolutionary biology or a related field. A background in working with reptiles is desirable but not required.
