Job Description

Enterprise Systems supports the Virginia Tech community by developing, coordinating, and managing application software systems and enterprise data to provide critical information services for university constituents.

As a Database Administrator, Senior, you will implement and maintain databases under limited supervision. You will provide guidance and coaching to lower level professionals as well as leadership on database projects. Your responsibilities include diagnosing, troubleshooting, consulting, and resolving problems with complex systems in an enterprise environment. Additionally, you will make recommendations regarding process improvements and solutions, that are focused on the direction of tasks and duties.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, information systems or related field.
-Significant experience administering relational databases in a high availability environment.
-Significant experience with Windows operating system in a server environment.
-Experience utilizing best practices for database security, performance tuning and backup and recovery.
-Demonstrated experience with programming languages. Examples include Java, .NET
-Significant experience with PowerShell.
-Experience supporting end users with SQL performance and other database related problems.
-Significant experience working with vendors to resolve technical issues.

-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
-Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

-Certification in relational database administration.
-Higher education courses in database management systems.
-Experience serving in a technical leadership role on projects.
-Experience supporting extract, transform and load (ETL) processes.
