Google Books Project -- Materials Processing and Shipping Specialist



Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries welcomes applications for a Materials Processing & Shipping Specialist . In this position, you will verify that materials being shipped from the Libraries meet the requirements of the Google Library Books Project and are pulled and processed accurately. You'll ensure that the shipment deadlines for these materials are met and pick up and deliver materials from our branch libraries and the PASCAL offsite storage facility on the Anschutz Campus in Denver. For the present, and for the duration of the pandemic, this position will page and prepare materials from Norlin Library for our contactless patron pickup program. This position is very deadline driven, requiring accuracy in all aspects. You'll ensure accuracy and track down missing materials (i.e., books, maps, and government documents) in order to meet fulfillment and delivery requirements.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Contactless Pickup tasks
  • Pull books from stacks and prep materials for contactless pickup. Check books out to patrons, place materials in paper bags, organize bags on carts, and deliver carts with bags of books to pick up destination.

Google Project University Libraries and PASCAL tasks
  • Pick and move library materials from either the libraries on the CU Boulder campus or from the PASCAL facility in Denver, reviewing them for preservation issues, and preparing them for shipment by Google to a scanning facility. (Pulling books from the PASCAL facility will require operating a forklift after earning appropriate certification.)
  • Check books out to the Google Project, creating item records in our Integrated Library System (ILS) for some materials prior to checking them out and shipping them to Google.
  • Ensure shipment of materials from libraries on the CU Boulder campus and the PASCAL facility, strictly adhering to the Google Books project deadlines.
  • Check books in upon their return from Google at the appropriate site, paying due attention to accurately processing according to established procedures.
  • Re-shelving books into the correct location (and facility) once returned.

PASCAL Service
  • Load and deliver PASCAL items to and from the offsite facility using a University vehicle (Prius). Check in PASCAL returns, pull materials from cubes (on some weekend days), scan requests. Print out any additional requests from ILLiad in a timely manner.

Branch Delivery
  • Load materials from PASCAL, Prospector, and paging requests, etc.driving them between the branch libraries on campus.
  • Pick up paged materials, requested Prospector items, and Interlibrary Loan materials, bringing them to Norlin to be placed on hold or shipped in a timely manner.
  • Sort incoming branch items.


What We Can Offer

Salary range for this overtime and benefits eligible position starts at $33,000.

What We Require
  • Colorado residency.
  • Current driver's license.
  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability, working with a colleague, to push approximately 600 lbs. on specialized carts.
