The UFHPTI is an academic, nonprofit, radiation oncology center located in downtown Jacksonville. Since opening in 2006, the UFHPTI has delivered proton therapy to over 9,000 patients from Florida, the U.S., and 33 countries, including over 1,800 pediatric patients. As part of the University of Florida Health Cancer Center, UFHPTI is designated by the State of Florida as a Florida Cancer Center of Excellence. All proton gantry rooms are equipped with orthogonal kV and CBCT for image guidance. For photon treatment, three linear accelerators (1 Varian TrueBeam and two Elekta synergies) provide 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and IGRT. Simulation equipment includes a Philips large-bore CT simulator, a PET/CT, and an MRI unit. The facility also offers LDR brachytherapy service.

The current medical physics program includes 7 physicists, 1 physicist in training, and 1 resident. Educational initiatives include both a CAMPEP approved medical physics residency program and an ABR defined structured mentorship program. As faculty of the UF College of Medicine, UFHPTI physicists also participate in the radiation oncology residency and medical physics graduate programs based in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Radiology at UF-Gainesville.
