Mission or Goal of Unit

The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is recruiting for a junior faculty member (non-tenure eligible) for the Division of Pediatric Allergy / Immunology. We are seeking a primarily clinical provider to assist the Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology to further expand pediatric allergy presence in the community. The Division currently has 3 clinical faculty, an advanced practice provider, a nurse coordinator and a nurse navigator who currently provide care for patients at the downtown Children’s Pavilion and travel to outlaying community clinics. Additionally, the division has an active ACGME approved fellowship program in coordination with the Department of Internal Medicine.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching:
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, and fellows when applicable.

Research:
Faculty member will have working knowledge in research methods and be able to participate in clinical, translational, and outcomes research.

Service:
Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.

Clinical:
Faculty member will serve as a pediatric allergy and immunology physician for the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. The division provides clinical care to both inpatient and outpatient arenas.

Other:
Faculty member will take on administrative duties associated with this role.

Required Qualifications

• Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics/Allergy and Immunology
• Experience with clinical care of patients
• Experience in an academic medical center
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with clinical or basic science research experience and the ability to apply for and obtain early career awards from the NIH or other funding agencies.
