The Department of Neurology at University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a part-time, highly qualified postdoctoral research fellow for preclinical translational research focusing on cellular signaling pathways involved in immune regulation of neuronal function. Primary research involves use of patient-derived samples for analysis in cell culture, primary neuronal culture, and rodent animal models of neurologic diseases. Specifically, we are interested in the molecular mechanisms of autoantibody targeting of cell surface proteins. The laboratory utilizes multidisciplinary approach and techniques include primary neuronal culture, acute brain slice sectioning, neuropharmacology, viral vector delivery, histology, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, light and confocal microscopy, and live cell microscopy.

Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or cellular physiology. Experience with mouse and rat transgenic and knock-in/knock-out models is preferred. The successful candidate will lead one or more projects combining multidisciplinary approaches in cell biology, neuroscience, and immunology.

Qualifications :

We are looking for highly-motivated, productive, and results-oriented scientists with strong Ph.D. training in neuroscience or a neuroscience related field. The ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with other investigators, is necessary.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare proposals for competitive research funding.
