Advance research, and education missions of the Academic Medical Center in the areas of Hospital Medicine.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The chief purpose of this position is to support our research mission.

Position Responsibilities

1. Teaching: Will assist with undergraduate teaching.

2. Research: Will conduct clinical, bench or population research in the context of a
Masters’ Program in Clinical Translational Research.

3. Clinical: This appointment as Instructor of Medicine comes with clinical privileges within the Hospitalist Medicine section and the trainee will be assigned a mandatory, limited number of hospitalist night shifts. The night shifts will be limited to14-16 hours per week, averaged over 4 weeks, within the Hospitalist Night Medicine Program. There will also be an optional additional clinical component of training within the individual areas of interest. This will be tailored to meet the need of the scholar but will not exceed 20% of effort time. The individual will have clinical privileges within the Hospitalist Medicine section.

4. Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) Will participate in other activities as assigned.

At the end of the program, trainee is expected to be competitive for an appointment as an Assistant Professor faculty position and for a KL2 or KL3 NIH training grant or for ready for a clinical fellowship in an internal medicine specialty.

Required Qualifications

• The candidate must be a physician that is Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.

• Prior research experience and interest in a career in Academic Medicine.

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .
