Assistant Professor of Psychology -- Behavioral Data Science

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. For this position, we are interested in researchers whose research uses new computational techniques  to examine issues that intersect cognitive and social psychology . The current position seeks to build on a recently established, ASU-wide research cluster – Behavioral Data Science. Preference will be given to candidates who can collaborate with existing Psychology faculty and whose research interests supplement our emerging strengths in exploring large-scale naturalistic and experimentally-collected data within a data science framework to generate new insights about underlying psychological processes.  

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and programs in Psychology, including Behavioral Data Science, Forensic Psychology, and Resilience in Social Environments. Since Fall 2017, the School has added ten new tenured/tenure-track faculty, including two new tenure-track faculty in Psychology. This academic year, the School has been approved to recruit seven additional tenured/tenure-track faculty, including three new tenured / tenure-track faculty in Psychology.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must:

1. a) have a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field by the time of appointment
2. b) a research agenda that focuses in applying the latest advances in data science and computational modeling to an area related to cognitive and experimental psychology
3. c) demonstrate excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant Professor at ASU

Desired Qualifications:

1. a) Priority will be given to scholars currently at the Assistant Professor level
2. b) Evidence of experience or interest in teaching in areas related to cognitive psychology and data science
3. c) Research interests that align with current faculty in the Behavioral Data Science research cluster
4. d) Desire or willingness to teach quantitative methods or analysis at the undergraduate or graduate level
5. e) Evidence of the potential to establish a strong, externally-funded research program
6. f) Experience teaching and mentoring students to conduct research at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
7. g) Demonstrate experience in promoting interdisciplinary collaborations in research
8. h) Experience contributing to curricular and program development
9. i) Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first generation students
