Position Summary
The Upward Bound Tutor works closely with program staff to support the academic development of student participants in grades 9th-12th and fosters a culture of college enrollment and completion. During the academic year, tutors provide direct supervision, leadership and direct academic assistance through virtual and on-campus (when accessible) mediums for participants during Upward Bound’s after-school tutoring program and other related activities/events.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PROGRAM SUPPORT
Assists in developing, designing and leading program components (in a virtual and in-person setting) that result in positive outcomes for Upward Bound student participants. Provides engaging, ongoing opportunities for Upward Bound student participants to experience success through academic activities. Develops and maintains a safe, supportive learning environment to achieve positive results. Builds strong, positive relationships with Upward Bound participants. Provides time and group management while offering homework and tutoring assistance. Creates and maintains discussions for program and participant improvement.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Reports to site on time and prepared, as directed. Models professional behavior with student participants, parents, and staff. Handles disruptive behavior with respect, following guidelines, processes and procedures, and reports any issues to Upward Bound Supervisor, Advisor, and/or TRIO Director.
CLASSROOM & COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Assists with snack/bus pass distribution, student participant sign-out, and facilities clean-up. Assists with off-campus and weekend activities/events, when needed.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively participates in staff development workshops which contribute to personal and professional growth. Attends all required department meetings and training. Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends, as required to support department goals. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required. Access to a consistent, stable internet connection and computer/ laptop with a camera and microphone is also required.
Usual Physical Requirements:
The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others via videoconferencing software, in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision. Employee may occasionally lift or exert force of up to 10 pounds when moving files, boxes, or other materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of : English word usage, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation; computer software, programs and applications; child development; refugee/immigrant experience; k-12 education systems.
Skill in : excellent verbal and written communication; organization; customer service; conflict resolution; application of job software including word processing and spreadsheets; performing mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, percentages and fractions; planning & scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Preferred Qualifications: At least a Bachelor's degree.
