Summary:  Individual responsible for helping students with course scheduling, defining their academic and career goals and identifying research opportunities.This person will serve as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduates associated with the Department of Biological Sciences. Will work with faculty committees to assist with planning and implementing new program initiatives and student activities.  The Director will lead the undergraduate colloquium course, co-teach the first and junior year seminars of the Mellon College of Science core curriculum. The director will work with faculty on curriculum development, and with the department, college and CMU administration on recruiting. This is a 12 month special faculty appointment. 



Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field.

Two or more years - experience counseling college-level studentsis preferred.

Clear evidence of administrative capacity



Excellent interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Strong analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills

Ability to keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records, understand and follow directions, work in a culturally diverse environment, and supervise others.

Some evening and weekend hours are required.
