Professor of English

Blackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for two tenure-track Professors of English in the department of English & Communications. Candidates for both positions must be able to teach first-year writing and a variety of literature. We specifically seek candidates who can serve as a British literature generalist and/or teach creative writing poetry.

In addition to serving majors in literature and creative writing and general education students through first-year writing and literature, the department offers minors in gender and women’s studies and professional writing. Therefore, candidates with a secondary experience teaching in these fields would be welcome.

Both candidates will work closely with peer-writing tutors in first year writing, and the department oversees the college writing center in which our tutors work. Therefore, candidates should have experience with or be excited about mentoring tutors and integrating them into the first year writing classroom.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English (or related field), demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students, specifically first-year writing and literature, and commitment to working with undergraduate populations with diverse levels of preparation and engagement.
