Assistant Professor of Chinese

Centre College invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of Chinese, to begin August, 2020.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment or have a scheduled dissertation defense date and be qualified to teach all levels of Mandarin language courses. Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English is required. Candidates with expertise in linguistics are especially encouraged to apply, but candidates who base their scholarship in literature, film, or other aspects of culture will also be considered.  The successful candidate must be committed to excellent teaching, and evidence of scholarly productivity and broader service is desirable.

This position bears responsibility for all aspects of the Chinese program. The successful candidate may also offer courses in other areas according to the candidate’s abilities and interests. Examples include first-year seminars, linguistics, Asian Studies, and film. In addition to Chinese, Centre’s robust language programs provide instruction in German, Japanese, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Classical languages.
