Assistant Professor of Latin American Colonial Literature

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Northwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in colonial Latin American literature and cultures, with a preferred start date of September 1, 2020. 

We seek a scholar with a broad vision of the field, and with an understanding of the local and transnational geographies of colonial history and cultures. We particularly encourage applications from scholars with expertise in ethnic studies, gender and sexuality studies, critical theory, indigenous studies, migration studies, performance studies, film studies and/or new media.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate scholarly achievement and promise, commitment to teaching, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English (proficiency in regional/indigenous languages and/or Portuguese welcome) and willingness to participate fully in a vibrant program with strong ties to neighboring disciplines in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. A Ph.D. in Spanish or related field is required, as well as native or near-native fluency in English and Spanish. The Ph.D. must be in hand by the start date.
