Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in English or closely related field at time of application or completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020.
  • Specialization in 20th- and 21st-century British literature, with demonstrated interest in postcolonial Anglophone literatures.
  • Demonstrated potential for or evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, both undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Demonstrated potential for or evidence of successful research and publication.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in teaching courses in 20th- and 21st-century British literature, including postcolonial Anglophone literatures.
  • Expertise in African and African diasporic, South Asian, Caribbean, and/or Arab and Arab diasporic literatures written in English.
  • Ability to teach British literature across the 20th and 21st centuries, including for instance modernist, realist, postmodern, exile, utopian/dystopian, and/or genre literature in novel, poetry, drama, and non-fiction.
  • Ability to teach critical theory and its histories (e.g., postcolonial theory, decolonical theory, race studies, gender theory, New Historicism, ecocriticism, etc.) particularly as they have shaped the study of 20th- and 21st-century British literature.
  • Potential for developing campus-wide interdisciplinary links with other departments and programs such as Africana Studies, Asian and Asian-American Studies, Comparative World Literature, International Studies, or History.
  • Potential for developing service-learning courses, pursuing community-based research, and/or engaging in other high-impact pedagogical practices.
