The Kenyon College Department of English invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in eighteenth-century literature and Romanticism, to begin July 1, 2020.

Scholars with interests in transatlantic studies, environmental humanities, gender and sexuality studies, disability studies, and/or the digital humanities are particularly welcome, as are candidates who can broaden the department’s curricular diversity and contribute to one or more interdisciplinary programs, including African Diaspora Studies, Comparative World Literature, Environmental Studies, Latino/a Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies.

The teaching requirement will be five courses per year (divided 3:2 or 2:3). Other responsibilities will include advising students, directing honors projects, and participating in faculty governance. Evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence is required. Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. by August 2020.

A completed application must include a cover letter detailing research interests, teaching experience, and teaching philosophy with information on ways that issues and practices related to diversity, inclusion, and equity have been or will be included in teaching and advising; a Curriculum Vitae; and a writing sample of up to 30 pages. Applicants should submit the names and email addresses of at least three references, including at least one who can attest to the applicant’s teaching effectiveness.

All application materials must be submitted electronically at http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled; for full consideration, candidates should submit application materials by November 1. Preliminary interviews will be held by Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype, with on-campus interviews to follow.
