The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Sacramento State has 30 full-time and part-time faculty members serving more than 800 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. Our department offers a Master of Arts in Spanish, undergraduate majors in Spanish and French, minors in Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and also offers language classes in Arabic, Korean, and Punjabi. Our undergraduate programs are designed to provide students the opportunity to learn about languages, literatures, and cultures, to broaden cultural understanding, increase language proficiency, and be able to communicate successfully both in a pluralistic American society and abroad.

Essential Duties

- Teach courses ranging from elementary to advanced Spanish language and undergraduate and graduate courses on Mexican culture, Mexican literature, and Colonial literature;
- Advise and mentor students;
- Engage in scholarly and professional activities;
- And provide service to the department, college, campus, and community.

Appointment Specifics Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Mexican Literature and Culture. ABD applicants considered. If ABD, applicant must complete degree by August 2020.
- Native or near native fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for teaching excellence at all levels of Spanish language instruction.
- Evidence of ability to conduct scholarly or applied research in area of specialization.
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body and the broader community.

Preferred Qualifications

- Abiltiy to teach Latin American Colonial Literature
- Experience teaching at the college/university level.
- Experience in developing and teaching online and hybrid courses.
- Experience in course coordination and supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, foster, and mentor a diverse student body.
