Job Description Summary

This is an opportunity to become a Student Computer Technician providing support of campus technologies to faculty, staff, and students in offices, classrooms, and computer labs.

The objective of this program is to employ and develop the next generation of technology professionals by providing practical work experience for students at the Largo campus.

These positions will be working under the direction of Enterprise Technology’s Technology Client Support Services. Students are expected to work approximately 10 hours per week. Work schedules are coordinated individually with each student to ensure their availability for scheduled classes and the business needs of the College. Current support operations are conducted during these times: (Monday – Saturday) 8:00 AM – 9:45 PM and Saturdays (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM).

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be a current PGCC student enrolled with a course load of 12 credits or more per semester with a PGCC grade point average of 2.50 or above.
  2. High School diploma or equivalent.
  3. Completion of course INT -1010 (Introduction to Information Technology) or equivalent course is required.
  4. Completion of INT -1540 (Computer Hardware I) or equivalent course is required.
  5. Previous technology experience is preferred, but not required.
  6. PGCC Information Technology related major is preferred, but not required.
  7. Previous experience providing customer service is preferred, but not required.

  6. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot end-user problems on-site or via the telephone.
  7. Ability to maintain knowledge of current technology and able to learn new technology.
  8. Ability to communicate professionally, accurately and effectively in both verbal and written, as well as on the telephone.
  9. Ability to understand and respond to user questions in an effective and courteous manner.
  10. Ability to convey technical procedures and directions in layman’s terms
  11. Proficiency in the operation and use of personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, email, and Microsoft Operating systems.
  12. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Prince George’s Community Colleges’ students, faculty, staff, and community.

Job Requirements

  1. Must have reliable transportation to fulfill scheduled work commitments. This includes timely arrival for the start of your shift.
  2. Must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week. The shifts will be agreed upon between the Student and Enterprise Technology.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  4. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
