Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health invites applications for a tenure track position in the Departments of Neurology and Neuroscience. We seek outstanding candidates whose work has translational relevance and complements the expertise of members of both departments. The Department of Neurology includes strong programs in stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementia, neuromuscular disease, headache, multiple sclerosis and general neurology. The Department of Neuroscience includes strong research programs at the molecular, cellular and systems levels that focus on ion channels, synaptic transmission, developmental neurobiology, stem cell biology, neuroendocrinology, sensory neurobiology, sensorimotor integration and memory. Preference will be given to applicants who will be able to develop a productive, extramurally funded research program that bridges the interests of members of both departments. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.

Principal Duties:

Research responsibilities include developing an independent, extramurally funded research program.

Teaching responsibilities include teaching medical student courses and clerkship, mentoring graduate students and trainees, training residents, fellows and medical students and/or teaching continuing education programs for physicians, other providers and the public.

Weekly clinical activities would generally include outpatient subspecialty clinics, including general neurology clinics depending upon department needs at UW Hospital and Clinics, VA Hospital and other locations. Inpatient attending service depending upon the subspecialty interests of the person.

Candidates at the rank of associate or full professor will hold a leadership role in the department.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD or MD/PhD

Board eligible or certified in Neurology. Fellowship training or equivalent experience desirable.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Fellowship or advanced training or equivalent experience in research methodologies. Physician scientists will be committed to working with an active academic department with clinical, teaching and research responsibilities and will take a leadership role in clinical and research programs.

Interested in diverse candidate with interest in disparities research.

License or Certificate:

Licensed or eligible for Wisconsin Medical Licensure and board certified or Board eligible in Neurology.
