Lecturer in Spanish & Portuguese
The Department of Romance Languages & Literatures and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for a full-time, one-year renewable, benefits-eligible, lecturer position in Spanish & Portuguese.
Responsibilities will include teaching 7 courses in Spanish and Portuguese per year across three quarters according to the needs of the program in addition to some administrative and/or coordinating duties.
Superior level of proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese as defined by ACTFL is required. A M.A. or equivalent in Portuguese and/or Spanish or a related field is required by the start date of the position. Proficiency in English demonstrated by a minimum of one year of teaching and/or studying in an English-speaking country and/or a TOEFL score of at least 104 overall (and 26 in each area) is required. An advanced degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, translation, or second-language teaching or acquisition or a related field is desirable. A minimum of one year of experience teaching Spanish and Portuguese at the college or post-secondary level and experience in materials development are required.
This appointment will start on 1 September 2020. This position is contingent upon final budgetary approval.
