West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology seeks a BC/BE Neuro Ophthalmologist (ranks available: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV. Successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at other worksites, including but not necessarily limited to, West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc., West Virginia University Medical Corporation doing business as “University Health Associates,” [etc.] located in West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and, as such, travel is anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these other worksites. .

Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the areas of Neuro Ophthalmology. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, it is expected that candidates sustain an outstanding, extramurally supported research program. Responsibilities will include providing excellent patient care as well as teaching medical students and ophthalmology residents and fellows. Knowledge of working with ROP, adult strabismus and a pediatric cataract is important. Opportunities exist to participate in clinical and translational research.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible to obtain an West Virginia medical license. Candidates must be board certified / eligible in Ophthalmology or Neurology. Candidates must have completed an accredited ophthalmology residency program and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

At the WVU Eye Institute you will treat a diverse population of pediatric and adult strabismus patients and have exposure to clinically challenging cases. Our state-of-the art facility houses all subspecialties of ophthalmology as well as an active research program. This University-based practice is rapidly expanding with a vast patient population offering the opportunity to be busy quickly. Highly competitive compensation and benefit package is available.

The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, led by Dr. Ali Rezai, is expanding to include the clinical, research, and academic missions of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, among others. The Institute will spearhead efforts to develop innovative solutions for West Virginians and those across the world with neurological and psychiatric conditions ranging from Alzheimer’s to Parkinson’s; autism to stroke; and paralysis to chronic pain, addictions, and traumatic brain injury.

WVU Medicine provides the most advanced level of care available to the citizens of West Virginia and bordering states. Major expansion is underway to Ruby Memorial Hospital, recently adding a 10-story tower and an additional 114 licensed beds. A new 150-bed full service women’s and children’s hospital will open on the medical campus in 2021 to help address the growing demand for pediatric services.
