Position Details

The Anthropology Department at Wesleyan University invites applications from scholars whose research focuses on the “Anthropology of Muslim Worlds” for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1, 2021. The topical specializations for this position are open, but we have a strong preference for applicants whose work engages one or more of the following: religion and secularism; migration, displacement, and humanitarianism; the state and the law; militarization and everyday life; and activism and social movements. Scholars working in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South and Southeast Asia, and those doing multi-sited ethnography are encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is 2/2. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory cultural anthropology, core courses in theory and ethnographic methods, as well as specialized courses related to their research. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in anthropology in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D.in anthropology within one year of hire.
