The Marine Corps University Foundation is seeking applicants for the Major General Matthew C. Horner Chair of Naval History for the Academic Years 2020-2022.  The Chair provides the Marine Corps University a resident scholar with expertise in naval history, with a strong knowledge of American Naval affairs.  The Chair will serve at Marine Corps University on Marine Corps Base, Quantico and operate out of the Brute Krulak Center for Innovation and Creativity.  Major duties of the Chair will include:

 - Providing presentations, teaching classes, and leading seminars for students and faculty focused on naval history.

- Serve as a mentor for graduate papers focused on naval affairs

- Develop elective courses on naval history, as needed, for resident programs as well as the MCU College of Distance Education and Training (CDET).

- Contributing to wargames for University students and faculty by developing appropriate and relevant case studies.

- Developing a speaker and subject-matter-expert series on naval history that complements the curriculum for each of the MCU schools, to include the CDET programs.

- Publish on naval history and related topics in appropriate professional journals and other media.

 

The position is a two-year appointment, with an option for reappointment.  The start date is negotiable, but the ability to start during the current academic year is desired.  To be eligible, candidates must have a strong record of teaching excellence as well as a distinguished record of scholarly publications.  Knowledge of recent naval affairs and strategy is strongly encouraged, as is the aforementioned knowledge of American naval history.   Highly competitive candidates will have strong inter-personal skills and a passion and demonstrated capacity for educating adult learners.  Ph.D. is required.  Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen, or able to obtain a Security Clearance.
