The Africana and Latin American Studies Program (ALST) at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in African American Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2020. Completion of Ph.D. (or equivalent) is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire. Area of specialization is open to any aspect of the contemporary African American experience. A strong interest in both scholarship/artistic practice and teaching is expected.

ALST is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the histories and cultures of African Americans in the United States, and the peoples of Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. We seek a teacher-scholar whose research agenda is situated at the intersections of disciplines within the social sciences, humanities, or arts. Preference will be given to applicants who draw on theories, methods, and approaches in Africana Studies. The successful candidate will teach both introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. Applicants who can teach Introduction to African American Studies, The Black Diaspora, critical race theory, or interdisciplinary research methods courses are desirable. The successful candidate will fulfill the expectation that all Colgate faculty participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
