Mission or Goal of Unit

The primary mission of the School of Dentistry is to educate practitioners of dentistry capable of meeting the general oral health care needs of the communities they serve. Integral parts of the mission are research and other scholarly activity, patient care, leadership in dental education and organized dentistry, and collaboration and participation with other units within VCU and VCU Health Systems.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

This faculty position will provide teaching and mentoring to Predoctoral dental students and Postdoctoral in the delivery of endodontic patient care and in preparation for the provision of endodontic services within a private practice in general dentistry and/or a practice limited to Endodontics. Position includes teaching, research, service, scholarly activities and patient care.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching:
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Department of Endodontics within the Predoctoral Curriculum. These responsibilities will include didactic, preclinical and clinical responsibilities. Faculty member will also have teaching responsibilities in Department of Endodontics within the Advanced Education Program in Endodontics. These responsibilities will include didactic and clinical responsibilities. All teaching responsibilities will be in support of the integrated curriculum and may require didactic and clinical teaching in support of other Departments within the School of Dentistry.

Research:
Faculty will participate in research in an area of focus consistent with the mission of the School of Dentistry and the Department of Endodontics. Faculty member may work collaboratively or independently.

Service:
Faculty member will serve on Departmental, School of Dentistry, and University committees as assigned. Faculty members will participate in professional and community related service projects that promote oral health and maintenance of the natural dentition.

Clinical:
Faculty member will provide endodontic dental care appropriate to licensure and training to select clinical patients within the clinical practice facilities within the School of Dentistry. Faculty may also provide endodontic dental care outside the School of Dentistry under the guidelines outlined by Dentistry at VCU upon approval of the Department Chair and the Dean, School of Dentistry.

Scholarship:
Faculty will participate in activities within and outside of the School of Dentistry that further personal scholarship. These will include continuing education activities and academic faculty development.

Administrative:
Faculty will direct the activities of the predoctoral endodontics program and will assure that curriculum and activities of endodontic program conforms to the teaching of the Endodontic department in the School of Dentistry. Faculty will have administrative duties that are appropriate to the level of an assistant professor. Items such as administration of Banner and Blackboard services related to didactic and clinical teaching responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• DDS / DMD
• Eligible for dental licensure in State of Virginia
• Desire to mentor future dental practitioners
• Completion of Advanced Education Program in Endodontics and be American Board of Endodontists Board Certified or Board Eligible
• Demonstrated ability to teach dentistry
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters Degree
• Certificate in Endodontics
• Research experience
• Private Practice experience as General Dentist and/or Endodontist
• Prior experience teaching didactic and clinical endodontics within an Advanced Education Program in Endodontics
• Prior experience teaching didactic and clinical endodontics within a predoctoral curriculum
