Mission or Goal of Unit

The Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Division is a multi-faceted Division with full time faculty who provide care for any form of acute or chronic lung disease or critical illness.
The mission of the Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Division is to provide the best clinical care available for patients with lung disease and associated medical illnesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel that this care can best be delivered within the VCU Health System. Our mission is further to provide the best teaching of lung disease and associated disorders to future physicians. Finally, we strive to explore critically important lung and vascular and metabolic diseases through organized research and clinical scholarship in quality improvement, education, and delivery of care.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

This position will provide clinical support and advance the teaching and research mission of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division as a Resource Intensivist and Medical Critical Care provider.

Position Responsibilities

1. Teaching 10
- Provide teaching service to learners, including medical students, residents, and fellows
- Use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice
- Demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels
- Complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner – including but not limited to written and verbal feedback
- Participate in other learning activities such as foundations of clinical medicine, core conferences, procedural training, and other formal educational programs for undergraduate and post-graduate learners.

2. Research
We encourage clinical scholarship related to Critical Care Medicine.

3. Service
- Work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Medical Center, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
- Serve on institutional committees, particularly focused on safety, quality, and education.
- We encourage participation in scholarly activities such as professional society leadership.

4. Clinical 90
- Will provide exemplary care in the areas of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine with focus on in-patient services including as attending physician and consultant for MRICU, and as Daytime and Night Resource Intensivist.
- Will provide care on out-patient and in-patient consultation, and/or other in-patient services according to interest and expertise.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will be BC/BE in Critical Care after completing an ACGME -approved critical care (CC) fellowship in Pulmonary-CC or Internal Medicine CC. The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred BC/BE in Critical Care after completing and ACGME -Approved Critical Care (CC).
