Mission or Goal of Unit

Children’s Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has committed itself to transforming the Pediatric Cardiology Division into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

VCU Medical Center and Children’s Hospital joined together in July 2010, forming Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU . Together, we are a full-service Children’s Hospital that offers a robust continuum of pediatric services, research and education. The Children’s Hospital of Richmond and the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University are committed to transforming the Pediatric Cardiology Division into a model academic unit devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, and basic research.

Development of our multi-faceted cardiac imaging service (echocardiography, cardiac MRI and CT, PET imaging) is one of the top priorities for the Children’s Hospital Foundation Heart Center.

We are seeking an outstanding BC/BE pediatric cardiologist with advanced echocardiography training experience at the assistant or associate professor level to fill a non-tenure eligible position as the Director of the echocardiography laboratory. Candidates with experience in fetal echocardiography, functional and three-dimensional echocardiography and high research productivity are highly desired.

Position Responsibilities

1. Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Cardiology. Faculty member will provide guidance and mentorship to students, residents, fellows, nurses and echocardiography technologists in the area of Cardiology.

2. Research
Faculty member will have experience in securing revenue through grants and contracts and will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.

3. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine committees when appropriate.

4. Clinical
Faculty member will be responsible for providing pediatric echocardiography services, as well as general cardiology inpatient and outpatient duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology
• Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
• Experience with education of house-staff, medical students, and others
• Experience with research
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with advocacy at local, state, and national level
• Success in generating revenue (grants/contracts)
