The Department of African American Studies at Syracuse University invites applications for Spring 2019 semester:
AAS 433 (African American Studies) – Harlem Renaissance: Literature & Ideology (3 credits). Tuesday 6:30pm – 9:15pm
AAS433 (African American Studies) – Harlem Renaissance: Literature & Ideology
Course Description: Literature, politics, and social transformations during the Harlem Renaissance and New Negro Movements. Selected writers, intellectuals and activists in relation to national and international spheres of history, creativity, influence, and experience in the U.S., Europe, African, and the Caribbean. Writers such as Ida B. Wells, DuBois, Damas, Garvey, Hughes, Nadal, West.
Qualifications
A doctorate (or ABD ) required. Black Studies and Humanities doctoral training preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
Teach one section of ( AAS 433) Harlem Renaissance: Literature & Ideology. Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
Responsibilities
Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
Prepare lectures, projects or other student assignments.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
Meet all designated class periods. if you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or obtain a substitute.
Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to the University regulations.
Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
Provide department sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
